Prince Street Elementary creates innovative project to form a sense of community for students
SALISBURY, Md. – Students at Prince Street Elementary had an exciting first day back.
The school held ceremony to get them motivated for the second half of the school year.
Right before break, Prince Street placed students from pre-k to 5th grade into five different houses like in Harry Potter.
On Wednesday, they had their house reveal, as students found out which group they were in. Teachers put their house name on a piece of paper with invisible ink and from there and students had to scribble over the papers to find out the results.
Prince Street’s principal says the moves creates a sense of community and belonging.
One student Jaihaud White tells 47 ABC, “We might be in different houses but we’re still a big community, it’s helping us get to know each other and at the same time we’re having fun while doing our school work.”
Each house has their own name and mascot and we’re told the students will come up with cheers and chants. Goo-Hae Ra, Kuumba, Kuleana, Valentia and Jabari the five houses, but Prince Street says they are all one family.
