Police investigating armed home invasion in Felton
FELTON, Del. – In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, four people awoke to several armed men breaking into their home, and now police are looking for the men responsible.
According to police, at 12:46 a.m. four to six armed men kicked down the door of a home on the 100 block of Gelden Road in Felton and walked in.
Neighbors say this kind of incident isn’t common in the area.
Bill Coulbourne, a neighbor said, “I’ve lived here thirty plus years, and I have never seen nothing like this. I’ve never even seen police in here.”
On Wednesday, detectives were going door to door, looking for answers.
Police say during the break in, one of the victim’s inside the home was in his bedroom, trying to hold the door shut, and one of the intruders allegedly shot at the bedroom door in an attempt to get in.
At that point, police say the people living inside the home told the gunmen they had called police and that they were on the way. Police say the intruders then fled the scene, but not before firing one last gunshot towards the outside of the home.
Coulbourne said, “When I first moved up here, you could leave your doors unlocked, go to the store, nobody would bother you. Recently here, there’s different people moving in, it’s just not the same.”
It’s events like Wednesday’s that make neighbors, like Bill Coulbourne, fearful going forward.
Coulbourne said, “[I feel] really nervous because I mean, I don’t have no way, I don’t have no kind of protection or anything like that. Guns or a dog, or anything.”
Police say nothing was stolen in the home invasion, and no one was injured.
