Police continue search for suspect in Federalsburg homicide

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – Police have released the name of the man they believe is responsible for murdering 42-year old Tameko Barham in her Federalsburg home on Friday.

The suspect is identified as 49-year-old Stanley E. Ricketts Jr. Police say Ricketts Jr. is now on the run, but this isn’t the first time Federalsburg police have had a run in with him.

“He has had contact with our office before, but we’re not prepared to release exactly what the nature of that was. But to say he had an assaultive past would not be stretching it,” said Federalsburg Police Chief Michael McDermott.

Police say they were called in at 3:35 in the afternoon Friday after a family member went to check on Barham, and instead discovered a crime scene.

An eye witness, a family member of Barham, identified Ricketts as the suspect, authorities tell us the two had been acquaintances.

Federalsburg police, Caroline County Sheriffs Office and Maryland State Police, along with other allied agencies were on hand for the investigation.

“We had an extensive search of that area last night. We cleared that about 1 o’clock this morning,” said McDermott.

Police say following the murder at 406 Brown Road, Rickets fled on foot into a wooded area. They say even though he is still on the run, he’s not a threat to the public.

“We don’t want the public to think this was random, or strangers situation. No one should fear for their safety on a regular basis in this town or elsewhere,” said McDermott.

Chief McDermott says the way law enforcement catches wanted individuals much of the time is through tips from community members.

We’re told Police throughout the region have been notified and are assisting with the search.

“We’re running other leads down as they come in, and we’re hoping as more people become aware of who we’re looking for, that we’ll get more information in, and the unit can go out and make the apprehension,” said McDermott.
