Officials hold public meeting for proposed irrigation facility coming to Sussex County

MILTON, Del. – In Milton, a proposed spay-irrigation facility is looking to make its way to Sussex County. On Tuesday, officials with the Artesian Water Company held a public meeting for residents to learn more about the facility. The company says the Sussex Regional Recharge Facility will use treated wastewater from Allen Harim’s chicken processing plant to spray on cornfields in Milton. They add that some residents have concerns regarding the impact the wastewater will have on the environment, but officials say the irrigation process is safe, and both the water and wildlife in the area will benefit from the process.

“We want to make sure that residents have a chance to voice concerns, let them understand what we’re doing and let them see how this is going to help in the community in terms of making sure the wastewater is disposed of efficiently and effectively,” said Artesian Water  Company CFO Dave Spaht.

Officials add that if all goes well, they hope to have their facility up and running by springtime.
