New Eastern Shore Delegation chair ready to tackle challenges

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Eastern Shore Delegation’s newly appointed president and chair, Delegate Steven Arentz, was elected on Friday and says he’s thrilled to lead the organization for the next four years.

“We are a big delegation full of the Eastern Shore. We represent each county so that is a very, very important part,” says Arentz. “My goals and my aspirations are to keep people better informed.”

Arentz, who was previously the vice chair for the organization, says he’s honored to serve in his new role and start making changes.

“My goal is to really bring forth, if we can do it as a delegation, to bring forth good legislation from our delegation and move that forward and work on bills that I can help make bills better.”

Top issues he says he wants to tackle include making healthcare more affordable and addressing the opioid epidemic. “I think it’s a battle we’re losing,” says Arentz.

“We’re trying to sit back and give you opportunities to fail and that’s not where we should be we should be preventing those opportunities.”

He’s also encouraging residents to create relationships with not only him but the entire delegation.

“I constantly tell people, get in front of me, get in front of us because we are the ones making decisions on your behalf,” says Arentz.

He adds that whether you agree with his decisions or not, it’s all about keeping the conversation going and making the best choices possible for the future of the Shore.

“I think it’s important that whether you believe what I’m doing or you like what I’m doing that we have those conversations because the only way that you will leans and I will learn is if we communicate that.”

The next Eastern Shore Delegation meeting is set to take place on Friday, January 16th.
