Mountaire reviewing street closure options in Selbyville: Company offers $1 million to taxpayers

SELBYVILLE, Md. – In Delaware, officials with Mountaire Farms are discussing traffic improvement options for residents in Selbyville. According to officials, Mountaire is reviewing options for traffic flow on Hoosier Street after the town raised concerns about the company’s live haul trucks backing across the street from one Mountaire property to another. Currently the company has hired an engineering firm to do a traffic study of the area, and has proposed a number of options including closing Hoosier Street for good. Mountaire officials say if the council is in favor of this closure they’ll donate $1 million  to the town, which could be used towards a number of improvement projects in the area.

“Being a good neighbor and being a part of Selbyville is who we are so we want to work with the town on adjusting the issue here for the Hoosier street road closure and we think it could be a win-win solution for everyone,” said Mountaire Farms director of communications and community relations Cathy Bassett.

Mountaire officials add that the town has since created a committee to study the traffic issue, and are hopeful that they’ll come up with a resolution within the next couple of months.
