Milton officials unveil plans to alleviate flooding in downtown parking lots

MILTON, Del. – In Milton, officials are unveiling their newest project to address drainage issues in the town. According to the town manager Kristy Rogers, the $200,000 Magnolia Street Project will help alleviate flooding problems in parking lots in the downtown area. Officials say the flooding issues are due to the fact that the lots are surrounded by three bodies of water that overflows almost every time it rains. Which is why officials are looking to install a rain garden that they say will help solve these issues.

“We will find a way for the water to drain into a rain garden. This project in my opinion is important to the town. Things in the downtown area there is a lot of flooding and when that flooding occurs we lose several parking spaces,” said Rogers.

Rogers adds that the proposed project could eliminate close to 20 parking spots in the area, which for some residents, is a concern. But she tells us that the town and other officials are still working on a plan to add more space for parking elsewhere.
