Marine Education, Research & Rehabilitation Institute saves marine life

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. – The Marine Education, Research & Rehabilitation Institute announced the impact marine life had this past year on the Delaware coast.

According to the Board of Directors at the non-profit, they have spotted nearly 152 seal visitors this past year.

The organization has also seen an increase of 21 bottlenose dolphin strandings and 40 sea turtle strandings.

This past year, they launched a successful plastic straw campaign and have brought attention to dangerous seismic testing off the coast.

“We had a plastic straw ban that a lot of the restaurants and organizations in the area headed hear to and then we also had seismic testing that was prohibited along Delaware Beaches,” said Rob Rector, member of the non-profit.

According to Rector, the Marine Education, Research & Rehabilitation Institute is looking to open an education center for the community to come out and learn more about our local marine life.
