Maintenance man saves the day with fire extinguisher
DOVER, Del. – A maintenance man is being hailed as a hero in Dover after he put out a fire in an apartment complex.
The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at Persimmon Tree Apartments.
Dover Police, Fire and EMS all responded to the scene.
The building was evacuated but fire fighters are crediting the safety of all tenants to the quick thinking of that maintenance man, who grabbed a fire extinguisher and took matters into his own hands.
Deputy Chief Michael O’Connor with the Dover Fire Department said, “There was four children in the room adjacent to where the fire was, and we put them inside of an ambulance to keep them warm, but nobody was injured.”
This is a good example of why knowing where a fire extinguisher is and how to use it is critical.
As for this incident, the Fire Marshal’s office is now investigating what started the whole situation in the first place.
