Hunger on the Eastern Shore never takes a holiday
SALISBURY, Md. – Now that the holiday season is officially over, local organizations are reminding everyone that hunger never takes a holiday.
The Maryland Food Bank says from January through March they really struggle to meet the growing need to feed local families here on the Eastern Shore.
“You wake up on New Year’s and you’re still just as hungry. Maybe just had a little bit extra because the communities have been so supportive and we very much appreciate that, but we want to make sure that these families can help sustain their need and that means we have to regularly procure those resources for food can continue to be on their tables year round,” explains Jennifer Small of Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore.
We’re told the Maryland Food Bank’s Eastern Shore branch distributes about five million meals but they’re still seven million meals short of feeding everyone who is food insecure on the shore.
So since the need is always there, the Food Bank is always looking for volunteers, donations, and businesses willing to step in to help.
