Free food pantries opening up in Sussex County

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Some exciting news out of Sussex County.

A free food pantry is up and running in Georgetown.

An advocate for homelessness, Jim Martin, has partnered with the Shepherd’s Office to start planting these pantries across the county. The Shepherd’s Office is a Christian resource location that aids others to be able to obtain clothing, food, shelter and employment.

How does it work? Well, it’s quite simple. You can either bring free food or take whatever you want.

This is the first food pantry that they’ve seen in the area.

Currently, they are in the works of having it placed in front of St. Paul’s Church in Georgetown.

Martin says it’s the little things that can make a huge difference for those in need. “A lot of times, they’ll find their resilience if you give them one little piece of the puzzle that their missing. It can be dinner for tonight or a pair of gloves and that’s the difference maker for that day, can lift them up out of that hopeless despair,” Martin says.

They hope other churches or businesses get motivated to get these pantries installed as well.

If you’re interested in having one, you can contact the organizer Jim Martin at 302-858-8556.
