Early morning single vehicle accident turns fatal in Accomack Co.

ACCOMACK CO., Va. – According to Virginia State Police, a single vehicle accident resulted in one fatality early Friday morning.

Police were called to the scene just before 5:30 AM, on Route 187/Nelsonia Road, west of Route 796/Davis Lane. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 1999 Ford Escord was traveling eastbound on Route 187 when it reportedly ran off the roadway, overturned in a ditch, and came to rest against a utility pole.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Julia Marie Vermeal of Parksley, VA, was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say that 27-year-old Joseph Vermeal of Onley, VA, and 24-year-old Robert Donovan of Parksley, VA were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Neither suffered life threatening injuries.

We’re told that neither of the occupants were restrained, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
