Dozens of care packages to make their way to Afghanistan

DELMAR, Del. – Dozens of people spent their Saturday putting together care packages for our troops stationed overseas.

The event took place at the Delmar VFW and was in coordination with Jeff Merritt and Operation We Care. Fifty packages, filled with items like shampoo, conditioner, oatmeal and non perishable items were boxed up, ready to be shipped out to troops in Afghanistan.

This has been a big event at the VFW for five years now, the reason is because it’s important to show those sacrificing overseas that we are with them.

“I have family members in the military and I actually worked with Jeff before I started my own group, and I saw how important it was to them and what he does with the events and how it really effects the soldiers,” said Kip Leitner, Cub Master for Pack 827.

We’re told these packages will be shipped out to Afghanistan sometime next week.
