Delawareans hope to win Mega Millions Jackpot

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Thousands of people on Delmarva on Tuesday will be making there way to a local gas station to test out their luck purchasing a Mega Millions ticket.

“There’s been a big increase in the amount of people playing it,” said Jennifer Radel, a store manager at Shore Stop in Bethany Beach.

“Big increase, compared to our everyday,” said Radel.

With just a fill in a bubble locals are looking to cash in on the ultimate prize, an estimated $425 million dollars. It is the fifth time Mega Millions has been drawn on the first day of a new year.

“It would be for world peace, reduce conflict overseas,” said John Steinke, a local resident.

“I think we’ve got too many conflicts going on, and I think they need some support and also for the environment,” said Steinke.

“If I won the prize my wife and I love to travel so I would definitely go to Canada,” said Joseph Beran, a local resident.

“I would like to go to Australia, I’d like to go to New Zealand, I’d like to go to China, I’d like to go Europe,” said Beran.

According to Radel, people flocked to the gas station this morning with hopes to score the big prize.

“I’m not used to seeing them this big, and it’s not a very common occurrence,” said Radel.

“A lot of them are coming in asking if we sell them, ask what the prize is up to, and they’re buying a lot more tickets than what I usually sell,” said Radel.

Some people said they would use the money to help pay off loans and to support their loved ones.

I would definitely help my children, and help them to pay off their debts and get them on their feet,” said Dorothy Beran, a local resident.

“And, I have grandchildren as well and my daughter is getting married this year and that’s another investment I want to be involved with as well,” said Beran.
