CA woman arrested on DUI charges after crashing vehicle

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says a California woman was arrested early Monday morning after she reportedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a curb.

Just before 12:30 AM, a deputy was sitting behind a Dodge Charger on Ohio Avenue at S. Salisbury Boulevard, waiting for the traffic signal to turn green. When it did, the driver of the Dodge accelerated onto Salisbury Blvd so quickly that the wheels began to spin and the rear of the vehicle began to “fish tail” back and forth. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, however, it continued accelerating away. Eventually the driver lost control of the vehicle and reportedly hit a curb so hard that sparks came flying out from underneath the vehicle, and its right front wheel came off.

When the deputy initially made contact with the driver, identified as 39-year-old Starla Renninger, she refused to exit the vehicle and law enforcement had to step in to get her out. A strong odor of alcohol was observed on Renninger and she allegedly stumbled as she tried to walk.

Renninger was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and attempting to flee and elude. She was released on an unsecured bond.
