Bayhealth issuing temporary flu visitation policy

DELAWARE – The number of flu cases across the state of Delaware is continuing to rise, and as a result, Bayhealth is issuing a temporary visitation policy.

Effective today, guests under 16 years of age are discouraged from visiting anyone at Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus and Bayhealth Milford Memorial. In additional, visitation to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus is restricted to parents, guardians, and grandparents. Exceptions may be made for visitation on a case-by-case basis.

Anyone that is experiencing flu-like symptoms is asked to avoid visiting someone at the hospital at this time. These symptoms include fever/chills, body aches, sore throat, cough, headache, and diarrhea.

“We are always driven to protect our patients. This temporary flu visitation police is being enacted to protect our patients from getting the flu or other illnesses. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. Our main goal is to keep our patients and visitors safe,” said Infection Prevention Manager Kelly Gardner.

Those with flu-like symptoms who are seeking medical treatment at Bayhealth is asked to use the items found at the respiratory etiquette stations, including hand sanitizer, face masks, and tissues.
