Budget smoothing bill in the works for Delaware
DOVER, De. On Tuesday, 47ABC took the time to speak with Senators and Representatives about what legislation they would like to see passed this year, and one specific piece of legislation kept coming up: a budget smoothing bill.
Last year, the bill never moved forward, so Governor John Carney signed an executive order to create a benchmark budgeting mechanism, and a budget stabilization fund for budget planning. The goal was to help the state of Delaware take a more sustainable approach to annual budgeting.
Legislators are once again working on a budget smoothing bill this year, and they hope to see it get passed.
Rep. Dani Short (R – D39) said, “So we will have a draft from either the end of this week or next week. It replicates the Governors executive order to make it a constitutional amendment.”
Governor Carney tells 47 ABC he is in support of the bill, and hopes to see it passed this session.
