Worcester County welcoming new leadership

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – There’s new sheriff’s in town. Matt Crisafulli is now taking on new responsibilities as Worcester County Sheriff. It’s a role he isn’t taking lightly.

“County residents can expect true leadership. I truly care about each and every citizen when I say people over politics, the position of sheriff should not be a political position because as the sheriff of Worcester County, I will fight tooth and nail for every citizen,” exclaims Crisafulli.

He hopes to increase the force, including community policing as well as working alongside allied agencies.

“We want to make sure we have top notch communication. We have to make sure we’re communicating effectively with all the different police departments, with our businesses, with our county commissioners, with our state’s attorney’s office. It’s all about communication.”

Something local advocate Lynn Dodenhoff is excited about because she tells 47 ABC that was something that was severely lacking when her daughter went missing back in 2007.

“I think they can sleep well knowing that Matt is in charge. He won’t let anybody slip through the cracks, you know, his door is always open. I mean I have called him on multiple occasions and if he doesn’t answer the phone, he calls me right back,” explains Dodenhoff.

And with a new Worcester County States Attorney taking oath in January, the two new leaders are ready to work beside each other to improve the community.

State’s Attorney Elect Kris Heisner says, “Sheriff Crisafulli and I are very excited, we work very well together. We have a lot of similar themes that we’re going to be implementing in Worcester County. In addition to increasing our proactive community policing, we’re also going to be doing that with the prosecution side.”

Crisafulli tells us he wants to start getting together and meeting with all local agencies every four to six weeks in hopes of better providing the specific needs each agency has.

Heisner is set to be sworn in on January 7th.
