Tourists flock to Ocean City Boardwalk for holiday weekend

OCEAN CITY, Md. – At the Ocean City Boardwalk families are spending the holiday grabbing some of their favorite beach treats and taking advantage of the off season.

Visitor Michelle Hughes said, “It’s great to be down here in the off-season. It’s not so crowded. You can go to any restaurant and get a table; they have good deals. We love it this time of year.”

To ring in the new year, plenty of people flocked to Ocean City to enjoy all that the boards have to offer.
For some, it’s become a beloved tradition.

“It’s our anniversary and we bring the kids down every year. It’s a great time to come to the beach and see the boardwalk.”

While summertime temps won’t be back for quite some time, that’s not stopping people like Joe Heyer and his family from hitting all their favorite spots.

He said, “There’s nothing a hoodie, an Eagles hat and Eagles gloves can’t solve.”

“Dressed up like Eskimos,” beach-lovers traded bikini tops and flip flops for scarves and mittens while grabbing some of their favorite snacks.

Hughes said, “Every year we come down we do Winterfest of Lights go out to eat go to Dumser’s and spend a few nights.”

But it’s not just Dumser’s and Thrasher’s that are bringing in the masses, Dolle’s Candyland is making big bucks because of the holiday traffic.

Employee Damon L. Tingle said, “My coworkers they tell me that it was really really busy. I was surprised when I got here. I was like ‘What? What is going on here!'”

If you plan on staying in Ocean City for New Year’s Eve, the beach town will host a fireworks show at Northside Park at Midnight.
