Thousands of cookies set to be shipped overseas

MILLSBORO, Del. –  American Legion Post 28 is currently home to thousands of sweets that will be heading to our nation’s warriors stationed overseas.

It’s all part of Operation Cookie Drop-Off. Locals get to donate baked cookies by the dozen, and these treats will be on their way to 16 addresses overseas, including Afghanistan and Syria.

The operation is a way to help soldiers get a little taste of home during the holiday season.

“It means a lot to me, the reason I did it is because when you think of them being away from their families at Christmas time, especially their children, and missing moments they’ll never get back, it is kind of a nice thought that we’re sending them a little taste of home,” said organizer Judy Mangini.

Last year 38 boxes, which is about 51,600 cookies, were sent out overseas. This year’s boxes of cookies will be sent out Monday morning.
