Sussex Central raises funds for State Championship jackets and rings

GEORGETOWN, Del. – For the first time in their history, Sussex Central can call themselves State Champions in football.

But unfortunately, they face one more challenge: getting enough money to buy their championship rings or jackets.

It costs $30,000 to get jackets and rings for the entire varsity team and they are asking if you can donate.

We’re told not everyone can afford the state championship gear. Their head varsity coach, John Wells says the rings and jackets are something the players can have forever but it also brings a sense of pride.

“I think they understood from the alumni that are around that lost before, that they were playing for them also. And not just for the school itself, but also for the community,” Wells tells 47 ABC.

The win over Salesianum wasn’t just big for Central, the last time a school in Sussex County won a state title was 37 years ago.

If you’d like to donate, you can find that link here.
