Sussex Central captures first ever state title with win over Salesianum
Sussex Central tops Salesianum
NEWARK, De. – The Sussex Central Golden Knights are State Champions for the first time in school history.
Sussex Central would be put to the test Saturday afternoon, up against a tough Salesianum team with the Delaware Division I State Title on the line.
Right out of the gate, the Golden Knights meant business. In the first quarter, Isaac Barnes started the scoring with a 59-yard touchdown pass to his twin brother Isaiah, putting Sussex Central ahead 7-0.
That score would carry us into the second half but only for a brief moment. Salesianum would kickoff to begin the third quarter and back to receive was Shiheim Williams who took the opening kickoff 99-yards up the left sideline and in for the touchdown.
An Andrew Watkins short yardage touchdown would cut into the Central lead midway through the third quarter but the Golden Knights continued to respond.
Barnes would later connect with Javon Toppin for the 15-yard score.
Kasim Lewis would get in the action, breaking through a short hole up the middle and scoring from three yards out.
Then sealing the deal, a 51-yard rushing touchdown from TyJhir Sheppard-Parker in the fourth quarter.
Sussex Central wraps up their championship season not only with a trophy, but also with a 12-1 overall record.
