Shooting investigation underway in Princess Anne: Police seek public’s help
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – It was a chaotic scene earlier Thursday afternoon as Maryland State Police investigated a shooting incident that took place at a Sommer Place apartment complex in Princess Anne. According to officials, around 10:30 AM they responded to the area for a report of a gunshot victim. Police say when they arrived they found the victim who’s now being identified as 19-year-old Antonio Johnson with a gunshot wound to the neck. Johnson would quickly be taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. And with that, an investigation was under way. Shortly after the incident police say they reviewed the apartment complex surveillance footage and found five African American men pictured here, sitting in the apartment complex laundry room passing around what appeared to be a handgun. That gun ended up accidentally firing and hit Johnson in the neck. Police say they believe the suspects then ran out of the laundry room and into Johnson’s apartment where they later called 911. They add that investigators recovered a .32 caliber handgun along with five rounds of ammunition when they searched the apartment. And Although police believe the shooting may have been accidental, they say charges are pending regarding the outcome of the investigation. An employee of the apartment complex we spoke with says this isn’t the first time an incident like this has happened, while residents in the area say they’re just glad nobody was seriously hurt. Police are still looking to identify the men observed in the laundry room surveillance video.
