Several dogs adopted at Mega Adoption coming down with parvo
HARRINGTON, Del. – 47 ABC has received several reports that dogs adopted from the Brandywine Valley SPCA Mega Adoption event last weekend are coming down with parvo, a contagious and deadly disease.
The disease is common among puppies. Symptoms of parvo include bloody diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, loss of appetite, and lethargy.
One person has already taken to Facebook, who adopted two puppies from the event, saying she has spent thousands of dollars in medical bills so far. Unfortunately, one of her puppies did not make it, and the other is undergoing treatment.
We have reached out to the Brandywine Valley SPCA for comment, and they provided the following statement:
“Each family has had the opportunity for free care at our clinic or a VCA hospital, and all adoption fees have been or are in the process of being refunded. All puppies available for adoption through the BVSCPA have received age-appropriate vaccines.”
They also mentioned that a puppy isn’t fully vaccinated until four months of age, and that properly vaccinated puppies can still be susceptible to some diseases, even if proper protocols have been followed.
We are continuing to follow this story and will have the latest information as it becomes available.
