12/31 UPDATE: Maryland State Police say Banjo has been found healthy and unharmed.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – The search continues for a dog that went missing in the aftermath of a fatal crash.

Investigators with the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack say that a wire haired terrier named Banjo was in the car and ran away from the Christmas Day crash along Route 13 and Quail Lane in Somerset County that claimed the life of 47-year-old Rebecca Kleinert.

In the time that has passed there have been a number of efforts to find Banjo but they have all been unsuccessful.

The Princess Anne Barrack says they hope to reunite the dog with his family during this difficult time. Cpl. Kevin Mareck says, “Probably the best thing you can do is stay with it, I don’t think the dog is going to come to anybody but it’s possible it may, if it does, I would say stick with the dog, again I would say call police or dog control.”

There was a reported sighting on Thursday, but Banjo apparently ran away.

If you happen to see him, you can call the Princess Anne Barrack at 443-260-3700 or call Somerset County Animal Control.
