Police strengthening patrols for holiday travelers

DELMARVA –  If you’ve hit the road lately you may have noticed a few more police cruisers out and about.

That’s because several state and local departments are increasing patrols for the holidays.

Police tell 47 ABC the heavy amount of holiday travelers have forced them to focus more attention on Maryland, Virginia and Delaware roadways.

47 ABC spoke with one local police department and they say they want anyone who is hitting the road tonight or tomorrow to drive sober because its just not worth the risk.

Laurel Police Department Chief Dan Wright said, “Its important for us to be seen and it will hopefully be a deterrent and people won’t take that risk. It will be a very expensive venture if they get arrested for DUI.”

If you’re worried you won’t be able to get home after you’ve had a few drinks you can always look in to taxi or ride sharing services such as Lyft or Uber.

As always drive safe, drive smart, and drive responsibly.
