Police arrest man on weapon and drug charges in Delaware

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – One man is behind bars after police say he had illegal drugs and a gun in his possession.

Delaware State Police arrested 26 year-old Tre Jamal Edwards of Lewes, DE.

Shortly before midnight police responded to a report of a shoplifting at Helly Hansen Department Store located 36470 Seaside Outlet Drive.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in a Black Kia Optima heading northbound on Coastal Highway.

Edwards’s car matched the description and police pulled him over.

During the stop they found a handgun on the passenger seat.

Police also found 10.92 grams of marijuana, 0.74 grams of cocaine, eight 9mm rounds loaded in a magazine, and over $600 in suspected drug proceeds.

He faces charges including:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession With Intent To Deliver  a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon By Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Marijuana

Edwards  was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $38,500 cash only bond.
