Pittsville volunteer firefighters help Santa deliver Christmas joy
PITTSVILLE, Md. – Hundreds of people got an early visit from Old Saint Nick and Mrs. Claus in Pittsville as part of the annual Santa Around Town Event.
This holiday tradition hosted by the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department takes the couple on a ride around town so they can meet with local families.
Children come out in their pajamas to get some treats and even a big special hug from Santa Claus.
According to the Chief at the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, George Whited, families look forward to this holiday tradition each year and that it is a way for firefighters to build relationships in the community.
“We ride around our territory, and we do it with lights and siren in certain areas in front of different residents, and their children usually come out and meet and greet with Santa right there at their yard,” said Whited.
According to Whited, the event has been around for more than 20 years now, but this is the first year Mrs. Claus joined in on the ride.
