UPDATE: Pedestrian identified in hit and run incident, suspect identified and arrested
HARRINGTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a hit and run that killed a pedestrian Friday night.
We’re told that 53-year old Rickey D. Honeycutt, of Harrington, was crossing U.S. Route 13, just south of the intersection with Corn Crib Rd, when he was hit in the northbound right lane by an unknown vehicle. The driver then fled the scene. The victim was then found by a passing motorist, who police say was not part of the collision.
Honeycutt was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say he was not using a crosswalk, was wearing dark clothing, but had a small flashlight. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs was involved.
Through further investigation, police were able to identify the driver as 48-year-old Lazaro H. Martinez of Lincoln. Martinez turned himself in to Delaware State Police on December 21st and was charged with leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death (felony), and failure to report a collision resulting in injury or death.
He was released on $3,100 unsecured bond.
