UPDATE: Pedestrian hit and killed in Ocean City, victim identified
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Police are investigating after a Pennsylvania woman was hit by a car in Ocean City Saturday night.
The Ocean City Police Department says officers were dispatched to the intersection of 28th Street and Philadelphia Avenue at approximately 8:50 PM for a report of an accident.
Police say a pedestrian, identified as 56-year-old Lorena Merris of Landisburg, PA, was crossing the highway when she was hit by a BMW 328i. She was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore but died as a result of her injuries Sunday afternoon.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
47 ABC spoke to one visitor who says he’s seen people get hit by cars in the area far too often, and that visitor has a message for pedestrians.
Savang Phonnathong said, “I’m not surprised [it happened]. Out here, I see people flying down the roads. Even if you think they’re going to slow down, just make sure they completely stop before even trying. Look both ways.”
Police are still investigating the crash and they’re asking anyone who has seen or heard anything to please give them a call at 410-723-6610.
