MSP seek public’s assistance after multiple burglaries in Somerset County
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – “We’ve checked our databases, tried to check pawn records,” said TFC Daniel Tilghman. Maryland State Police investigators from the Criminal Enforcement Division say they’re working around the clock to find the suspect or suspects involved in a string of burglaries in Somerset County.
“We’ve done a lot of neighborhood checks. We’ve talked to people. We’ve tried to identify witnesses,” said Tilghman.
Officials say three burglaries were reported back in October, and the most recent one happened on Monday all near Westover. Where jewelry, electronics, and 15 firearms were stolen. Leaving many residents in the area worried.
“That’s what’s concerning the firearms. Because if they get into the wrong hands,” said resident Marion Mister.
“You don’t know who they’re going to sell them to, or if they’re going to keep them, come back, kill you, take whatever they want. Everybody is at risk,” said another resident.
Investigators say these burglaries occurred in broad daylight when no one was home, where the burglar forced their way inside. They say firearms that were stolen include a number of pistols, rifles, and a shotgun. And add that those involved could strike again.
“We believe the one in December is related which makes law enforcement believe that they’re beginning the burglary spree again,” said Tilghman.
So far state police say they’ve received a few tips, but still have no suspects. And now they need the community’s help, and are asking for everyone to be on the lookout.
“If they happen to be in the market for firearms and they’re purchasing a used firearm for example, if they recognize one that’s not regulated on the list, just be mindful of that list so they can recognize that it is a possible firearm that was stolen,” said Tilghman.
And residents say it’s *critical* that everyone works together to help solve this case.
“That’s what we need really to keep the community safe,” said Mister.
Police say the investigation into the burglaries is still ongoing. They add that if you have any information regarding these crimes to contact the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack at 443-260-3700.
