MSP investigating fatal crash in Worcester County

OCEAN PINES, Md. – Maryland State Police are currently investigating a single vehicle crash that left one dead late Monday morning.

Troopers from the Berlin Barrack were called to the crash in the area of Racetrack Road and Beauchamp Road shortly before noon. Police found a Ford F-150 pickup was involved.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the pickup was traveling northbound on Racetrack Road, south of Beauchamp Road, when the driver lost control and the truck jumped over the right shoulder curb. The truck returned to the roadway, but hit an island and continued traveling down the island before hitting a traffic signal pole.

The passenger, a 25-year-old male, was partially ejected from the truck. He was taken to Atlantic General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, a 30-year-old male from Worcester County, was not injured.

Police believe impairment may have been a factor in the crash. Charges are pending and will be determined accordingly after results from DUI testing conducted on the driver are received.
