Local firefighter hoping to spread holiday cheer to senior citizens

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Firefighters are making sure the reason for the season isn’t being forgotten as one of their own hopes to brighten senior citizens Christmas this year.

Local fireman Ryan Whittington is trying to make his friend Dolores Kenny’s Christmas wish come true. A wish to spread holiday cheer to her fellow senior residents of the Berlin nursing home.

Whittington is hoping to bring fruit baskets and blankets to 60 of them at the home and bring a smile to their face this Christmas season.

“You see those sitting there some with family some without, some without visitors and some who aren’t able to leave the facility at all. It really melts your heart and then when you come in there and they see you and you just light up their day, you want to talk about joy and your happiness, that’s what you get when you visit someone in a nursing home,” explains Whittington.

He says they’re accepting donations until December 21st and you can donate through the GoFundMe page or at the Ocean City Firefighter Headquarters on 15th street.

If you are unable to give monetary donations he says giving your time is another way to contribute.
