Local family gives back, hosts Christmas breakfast

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – “This is the meaning of Christmas.”

Mamie Loretta Smith wants everyone to have a full heart this holiday.

Christmas morning the Smith family hosted their annual Christmas breakfast for the people living at Bradford House Apartment Complex.

Mamie’s daughter Ellene said, “We come here to spread Christmas joy to others that may not have families or that may be home alone.”

Spreading the joy, the family spends all year getting things together for the big day.

They’ve collected donations from Walmart, Food Lion and a few other places, and the people here are just thankful for the Smith family’s generosity.

Long-time resident Eric Young said, “Its just a wonderful thing that the Smith family takes time out of their day, Christmas day of all days, to come up here and serve the residents of the Bradford House.”

On top of Tuesday’s hearty smorgasbord the Smith family gave out gifts to remind everyone that they too are loved.

Why? Because Mamie says it’s just the right thing to do.

She said, “God gave his son to us so we ought to give to those that are in need.”

For the smith family to put on such a special Christmas morning, they say it takes a village and a lot of helping hands.

One volunteer said, “Its all about love fellowship and coming together as one.”

Coming together and understanding Christmas’s true meaning.

Mamie said, “Christmas is not giving to those that you know will give you something back, but to those that need. Be a blessing to someone else.”

She has one request for those this Christmas season.

“Help someone help someone! You don’t have to be rich.”
