Keeping packages safe from porch pirates

47 ABC – With the holiday season in full swing, many of you probably have packages getting delivered to your doorstep. That’s why police want you to be mindful of porch pirates, people who come and steal your packages right off of your door step.

So to make sure you don’t become a victim, there’s actually a few things you can do. Whether its asking a trusted neighbor or friend to check on your house or just tracking your package.

“The United States Postal Service has an app, the UPS has an app and I’m sure FedEx does too. It tells you right when packages are coming their estimated time of arrival. It will even tell you when that package was delivered when the delivery is made and in some cases you can even go onto the app and change where the delivery is or the instructions,” explains Lt. Tim Robinson from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

You can also use a shipping address of a family member or friend that you know will be home or even a business if you will be stuck at work.
