Invasive tick found in Maryland and Virginia
An invasive species of tick has been found in Virginia and Maryland, and the most disturbing thing about this tick is that it can produce hundreds, if not thousands of eggs without a mate.
The Asian Longhorned Tick isn’t normally found in the United States, but it has somehow made it’s way into nine states.
We’re told the tick is mostly a problem for farm animals, but it will also latch onto humans, which is bad news, because they can transfer serious diseases to their host.
Ginny Rosenkranz, a Horticulture Expert said, “There are some human diseases that have been attached to them in other countries, but we have no idea if that has come here with the tick to our country.”
You may think that since it’s winter there are no ticks, but that’s simply not the case.
We’re told as long as these ticks have a warm blooded host to latch onto, they will remain active, so remember to check yourself and your four legged friends after walking through a wooded area.
