Fruitland Police warning of phone scam
FRUITLAND, Md. – Fruitland Police have recently learned of a new phone scam that has been circulating the area.
On Friday, the Fruitland Police Department started receiving calls from people stating that they were returning calls they had received on behalf of the department. The individuals that answered the call reported that the scammer was trying to convince them to commit Medicare fraud and purchase back and neck braces.
Police say the number that was provided was a Fruitland PD number, but was not a main line. They believe the number was either cloned or is being spoofed by a scammer.
This case is under investigation, and residents should be on alert as these calls are in no way affiliated with the Fruitland Police Department.
