Email sent to Avery Hall matches up with threats sent out nationwide

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury Police can now confirm to 47ABC that the email bomb threat we saw at Avery Hall Insurance in downtown is linked to those that were sent out nationally.

Captain Rich Kaiser says the email contained a portion demanding $20,000 worth of Bitcoin, the same as what was sent to WBOC, and institutions nationwide.

This information coming on the heels of a stressful day for law enforcement.

Salisbury Police arriving on scene for two bomb threats, aided by the Worcester County Sheriffs Office and Maryland State Police, and the K-9 units from those respective agencies.

“Normally we’ll see those at one business, and only one business. The interesting thing yesterday was multiple businesses that we had to respond to. There’s not much that we would change at this time. Our agencies worked well together, and we expect that to happen in the future, as well,” said Kaiser.

And it’s not just local agencies Salisbury Police were coordinating with. The agency is also working closely with the FBI, searching for leads here locally that could lead to the capture of the culprit.

“We also were in contact with our federal partners, in the FBI. We’re going to continue contacting them after we exhaust any local leads that we have,” Kaiser said.

Salisbury Police have responded to threats in the past, but this hoax has a positive side. It tested the ability of the local department to respond to situations like these, a response that was up to the task.

Kaiser adds that he has been with the department for 22 years and has never experienced a day like Thursday, where the department had to coordinate a response to separate bomb threats at one time.
