Delmar man arrested for early morning home invasion

SEAFORD, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Delmar man early Monday morning in connection to a home invasion in Seaford.

Police say the incident happened at around 4:30 AM, when they were called to respond to a reported home invasion. Officials met a 57-year-old male victim at a local hospital, who reported that he was inside his home, located in the 9000 block of Autumn Avenue, with a female acquaintance when her fiancé showed up uninvited.

The fiancé, 28-year-old John W. Whitby III, allegedly began knocking on the windows and then kicked in the front door. He then assaulted the victim with a blunt force object before leaving the residence with his fiancé.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police were able to locate Whitby and his fiancé at their home in the 34000 block of Bi-State Boulevard in Delmar. Whitby was taken into custody and charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, home invasion, assault second degree, and criminal mischief.

He was later released on $45,100 unsecured bond.
