DelDOT begins construction at Wootten Road in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – Local motorists and surprisingly boaters can expect delays for the next six months while DelDOT works on repairing a spillway in Laurel.

Starting Monday, a major portion of Wootten Road near Trussum Pond is closed and won’t be passable again until May. The construction is set to fix the spillway and bridge that was damaged by heavy rains back in 2016.

While DelDOT crews work to repair the issues, drivers will have to follow marked detour signs, But boaters should also be aware because it could affect their access to the pond.

“For boaters who like to utilize Trussum Pond, the water level is going to be lowered so that they can work on the spillway and the bridge so there may be times where the ramp and actually the pond itself is inaccessible,” explains CR McLeod, DelDOT Spokesperson.

DelDOT will be working alongside DNREC to keep boaters informed on when it will be closed. We’re told this is a roughly $700,000 project.
