DOVER, Del. – Delaware Technical Community College made history earlier this week, when they awarded the institution’s first bachelor’s degrees.
A total of 21 students received Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees during a special commencement on Monday, December 10th.
“Each of you have been pioneers. The first twenty one,” said Delaware Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long in her statement to the graduates Monday evening.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program was approved in 2016, in response to a serious need in the state’s workforce. Officials say the first group of 60 students began in January 2017, and since then, that number has increased to 270.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Del Tech is an online degree program designed for current RNs who are looking to pursue the next level of their education while continuing to work. The program builds on the foundational knowledge and skills gained in previous nursing courses and experiences. Coursework in the program emphasizes evidence-based nursing practice through a holistic approach, enabling graduates to be designers, coordinators, leaders, and managers of collaborative care.
