Del. motel shares “tongue in cheek” obituary for historic building ahead of demolition
FENWICK ISLAND, Del. – A historic motel released a “tongue in cheek” obituary and is hosting a public wake for its more than 60-year-old building.
The Sands Motel Facebook page says, “After years on life support, the plug was finally pulled on the Sands, leaving few (if any) mourners.” The Motel describes itself in the post as the family member that not many people liked. There will be a “traditional wake and final viewing” of the motel on Thursday, Dec. 20 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
The Sands says they will have a limited number of memorial gifts for attendees. Or, “if you rather, you can bring a rock and break a window. Whatever helps with the healing process.”
The Sands tried to remodel this past summer but ran into some zoning issues. A new hotel called Tapestry by Hilton will be built on the same lot and should be open in the Spring of 2020.
