Del. man arrested for attempting to flee from police
HARRINGTON, Del. – Harrington Police arrested a Wyoming man after he reportedly led police on a chase Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 12:30 PM, officers responded to a business in the Midway Shopping Center for a welfare check. They were told the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Todd Mahrenholz, was in a vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers approached the vehicle, which was a pick-up truck pulling a utility trailer, and attempted to make contact with Mahrenholz, when the vehicle accelerated and began to flee, during which the mirror of the suspect vehicle hit an officer in the arm. The officer suffered a minor injury as a result.
As a vehicle chase ensued on Route 13 northbound, Harrington Police received assistance from Felton, Wyoming, and Camden Police Departments, along with Delaware State Police. During the chase, the suspect tried to ram a Harrington Police vehicle off the roadway, struck a Wyoming Police officer and Wyoming Police Department vehicle, and several other vehicles. The suspect also tried to hit another Wyoming officer, but the officer was able to move out of the way.
The vehicle eventually stopped on State Street south of Rising Sun Rd in the Camden-Wyoming area.
Mahrenholz was taken into custody and taken to Milford Memorial Hospital for a blood draw for driving under the influence before being transported back to the Harrington Police Department for processing.
He is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $50,250 secured bond on several traffic and DUI charges.
