Community Cares program to bring holiday cheer to homeless children

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – In Rehoboth, residents and businesses in the area are looking to be angels to the 300 students at the Cape Henlopen School District that are homeless this holiday season. Currently, members of the Cape Community Cares program are aiming to provide each and every child with a holiday they won’t forget. So far 12 businesses in the area are placing angel trees in their front entrances where people can choose an angel and buy the item or items that the child has wished for. And residents in the area say it’s important for the community to give back to those in need.

“Everyone deserves a special holiday and this was an easy way to give that. There’s a lot of people in red in our community and you don’t want to forget about them and this is an easy way to give back,” said co-owner of Rise Fitness, one of the businesses taking part in the program, Amanda Peters.

Officials add that the gifts will be delivered to families on December 14th. And in addition to the angel trees, the Community Cares Program is also collecting other items for these children such as new pillows, blankets, pajamas and sleeping bags.
