City of Salisbury receives grant to study Wicomico port

SALISBURY, Md. – On Tuesday, officials announced that the Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded the city of Salisbury a $37,500 grant to help fund an assessment of a multi-user port along the Wicomico River. Officials say they want to expand the current port in Salisbury so that they can enhance business for offload services and local industry exporters which could have a major impact on the economy.

“This is an important part of our economy. We’d like to expand what’s there we’d also like to expand the ability of the current users of the port to bring in more and to export,” said Mayor Jake Day.

Day adds that the study for the port should get underway within the next couple of months. He adds that this study is necessary in order to apply for federal grant funding to expand the port.
