WILMINGTON, Del. – The Christiana Care Health System announced on Monday that they are raising their minimum wage to $15 an hour, set to go into effect on February 1st, 2019.

This increase is above the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, as well as Delaware’s minimum wage of $8.25 an hour.

“As the largest private employer in Delaware, it is important for us to set this standard as our caregivers support their families and contribute to the economic well-being of our state. This new policy strengthens our organizational vitality, increasing our ability to attract and retain the most talented employees in all positions and reinforcing our role as a sought-after employer and great place to work,” said Neil Jasani, M.D., MBA, Christiana Care’s Chief People Officer.

We’re told this change affects 500 current employees in a variety of positions, including clerical, technical, and service roles. This is the first health system in Delaware to make this commitment.

In 2018, Christiana Care was recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in Delaware for the 15th year in a row, according to a yearly survey conducted by The News Journal.
