CHEER officials seeking gifts for annual Operation Christmas CHEER initiative

GEORGETOWN, Del. – In Georgetown, officials with the CHEER Community Center are asking for residents in the area to donate gifts for their annual Operation Christmas CHEER Event. Every year, volunteers across Sussex County spend Christmas day delivering hot meals and Christmas gifts to seniors in the area who may be spending the holiday alone. Officials tell us they are in need of things like socks , sweaters, scarfs and more.  They say it’s so important that people remember those who may not be able to spend the holiday with their loved ones, and to give them a Christmas they won’t forget.

“This is where everything gets gathered together and where the volunteers come in and wrap these presents so that on Christmas morning, these people who don’t have anything else will be able to tear open a Christmas present, they’re going to be able to have a hot Christmas meal,” said CHEER CEO, Ken Bock.

If you’re interested in dropping off gift items– officials say you can drop them off at any of the CHEER locations in Delaware. For a full list of gift ideas click here.
