Briddell sinks go-ahead three, keeps Salisbury hoops perfect

SALISBURY, Md.- It would take an extra five minutes of basketball, but Salisbury native Gary Briddell made his mark on the ‘Route 13 Rivalry’ between Salisbury and Wesley, sinking a three-pointer to give the Gulls a 91-89 win on Sunday.

The Stephen Decatur graduate poured in 18 points, knocking down four threes, with the most important coming with 13 seconds to go. The Wolverines would have two chances to get a tie, or go-ahead bucket with seconds to go, but the Salisbury defense stood strong, blocking their game-winning three-point attempt.

For the Wolverines (4-5), they were powered by guard Brian Cameron, who dropped a 29-point double-double.

For the Gulls, joining Briddell at the top of the box score was Johnny Fierstein with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Mike Ward with 17 points and five boards.

The win moves SU to 9-0, their best start in program history, and doing it all under interim head coach Brian McDermott.

Next up for Salisbury is a road trip to Rowan on Saturday, December 22nd.

For Wesley, they return home for the ‘Black Tie Classic,’ hosting Birmingham Southern on Thursday, December 13th at 8:00 p.m.
