Annual Christmas parade brings families to Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – Hundreds of people on Delmarva made their way to the annual Christmas Parade in Salisbury on Sunday to celebrate the holiday.
“Anytime we can come together as a community and celebrate both the holidays and just togetherness is a good moment,” said Mayor Jake Day.
“The weather has held out for us, so it’s going to be a good day,” said Day.
“Well, the kids like Santa Claus, and just being happy and sharing things with other people,” said Judy Holmes, a local resident.
According to Day, the parade is more than just celebrating a holiday tradition, it is a chance for families to come out and celebrate the important figures in the community.
“We’ve got participants from all over the region, but especially Salisbury showing up here today is important,” said Day.
“Our schools, our fire departments, our police department, all are out there in the parade,” he said.
“The fact that you have an entire community that participates in the parade and takes part, you have a group of volunteers planning it,” said the Maryland Jaycees State President, Jessica Kling.
“We’ve incorporated everyone who wants to be a part of this, and I think that’s how it gets done,” said Kling.
Officials add, the Christmas parade honors the beloved officer Aaron Hudson better known to the community as Bull who recently passed away and was often dressed as Santa for the occasion.
“He’s been involved with our parade for many years, not just the parade, but other events downtown,” said Kling.
“He was a presence in this community, and we know he was very important to us,” Kling said.
“The parade has been dedicated to Bull, and you’ll see banners and posters and stickers all over vehicles,” said Day.
“We’re doing everything we can to just incorporate his memory and to the community events where he played a big role,” he said.
With more than seven decades of holiday cheer, officials hope this tradition will continue for years to come.
