UPDATE: police say no shooting occurred at Christiana Mall, there was physical altercation
NEWARK, Del. – Delaware State Police say an investigation revealed there was no evidence that a shooting occurred at the Christiana Mall Friday night.
Just after 8:30 PM Friday night, Delaware State Police received a report of shots fired at the Christiana Mall.
The mall was quickly evacuated and police launched an active shooter investigation.
Delaware State Police reportedly found no evidence that a shooting actually took place at the mall.
Police did confirm that a fight broke out between multiple people at the mall and during the tussle, a glass container broke and a metal sign fell to the floor. Police believe this is the sound people heard, and mistook for gunshots.
We’re told a few people received minor injuries while fleeing the mall on Friday, but the Christiana Mall has been reopened.
NEWARK, Del. – At this time, police say they have not found evidence that a shooting took place at the Christiana Mall.
As of 10:45 p.m., Delaware State Police say they are currently working to secure the area.
In a live press conference officials say they received multiple reports about what sounded like gun fire. We’re told there were also reports about a physical altercation. However police are not sure if that is related to the suspect shooting incident .
Investigators are looking to narrow down any leads.
Christiana Mall is currently closed. No one is allowed inside of the mall. We’re told only people who are looking for loved ones can find them at the nearby Costco’s.
There are no reported injuries at this time, but police are taken precaution and have set up an area for medical check ups.
No suspect is in custody or known suspects at this time.
Police will be looking into security footage at this time.

The mall is currently being evacuated and safety protocols are being followed to ensure the area is safe. All traffic is being diverted from the area. Motorist should expect delays and seek alternate routes of travel.
The investigation is in its early stages with further information being released as it becomes available.
